Scholarship Opportunity - The Centurions of Kendall County

The Centurions is a local philanthropic organization comprised of Kendall County businessmen that awards scholarships every year to deserving students from the Kendall County area. This year, scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $3,000 for a University and $1,500 for a Trade or Technical School award. And individual scholarship is to be used to assist with college or trade school tuition and books. Award checks will be made out to the college/trade school or University when The Centurions receive proof of registration.

Qualifications are as follows:

  • The receipt of a fully completed application. See attached. All items must be present for an application to be considered.
  • Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. If applying for a full $3,000 University Scholarship award, or a GPA of 2.5 if applying for a $1,500 trade school or technical school scholarship.
  • Successful applicant must have applied at a college, university or vocational school in the USA. The proof of acceptance will be required before check can be released.
  • Each student application must be accompanied by a community service resume that includes the student's name, address, phone number, local high school or home school, lists of service items that include the names, dates, and supervisor. Resumes can also include church activities, school clubs/organizations, athletic teams and any other involvement that would show participation in the Boerne, Comfort, and/or Kendall County area. Please include a list of any accreditations that you have received.
  • As the Centurions are a community service organization, applicants that demonstrate a history of civic and community responsibility will be reviewed first. Secondly, an essay of at least 1,000 and not to exceed 1,050 words in length must be attached. This year's essay topic(s) are as follows:  "For those who have been given much, much will be required." Or, "What would you say to someone who thinks education does not matter, or that college is a waste of time and money," or a third option would be: "Write an essay demonstrating your passion for a field of study and why you should be considered for this scholarship and what impact it will have on you." Remember, only pick one of these topics, not all.
  • Please include at least 2 letters of reference from persons not related to the applicant to verify their civic and community service. These letters must include full name, address, email address, and phone number.
  • If there is a personal or family economic hardship that you wish to disclose to the Scholarship Committee, please include a separate letter/statement related to this economic hardship.
The application, along with all attachments, must be postmarked or email stamped by April 15, 2017. Applications can be sent to 112 E. San Antonio Ave, Boerne, TX 78006 or emailed to baron@stonehousebuilder.com.
