Waitlisted?

"The waitlist exists because even the most selective colleges worry about "making their numbers." The incoming class has to be a certain size, filled with the best possible mix of students. If a small college has a target of 500 freshmen, there had better be 500 students showing up in the fall. And it needs to be 500, not 530 or 470. Too few and the budget takes a hit; too many and students end up living in Quonset huts or hallways (or even being paid to wait a year before matriculating). The applicants' purgatory is the colleges' safety valve." - Willard Dix

What to do if you are wait listed - Be proactive if you hope to come off of the waitlist!

Juniors: Attend Camp College at SMU!

Camp College is a college-going program for rising seniors to spend 2 nights on a college campus and learn about the college application process.  This program is open to any Texas high school rising senior (class of 2018) who is considered to be college bound.

This year's Camp College will be held at the Southern Methodist University from June 5-7, 2016.

The cost of the program is free to students. Camp College will provide buses for students coming from the Houston, San Antonio, and Austin regions.  Students from outside of the regions must plan on supplying their own transportation to and from SMU.

Space is limited, so submit your application as soon as possible. Application deadline is April 1, 2017.

Thinking about an out-of-state college?

Choosing where to attend for college is like finding a home for four years. These colleges offer overnight, weekend programs so prospective students can get up close and personal to the students and faculty that make up the college. Almost all of the opportunities listed here are expense-paid, while travel assistance can be requested for all others. We highly recommend that you visit your dream school (if it is listed here), as well as at least one safety so you know that you’ll be happy wherever you end up!

These are usually free or have a scholarship for travel if needed if it is not evident on the application (student needs to call and inquire).  Some of these are based on being a student of color/female depending on programming, and some take it into consideration, but don't require.

Most of the dates are for 2016, but it'll give you an idea of what's available.

Click here & here for additional information.
