LeaderSteps Application Deadline Extended

Attention Juniors!  

Applications are now being accepted for participation in the 2017-2018 Boerne LeaderSteps Program.  LeaderSteps is an independent leadership development program consisting of several one-day seminars to be held at various locations during regular school days spaced throughout the year. The program explores topics related to leadership, citizenship and community action, careers, business etiquette, public speaking and presentation skills, interviewing skills, college preparation and much, much more.  

If you would like to participate in LeaderSteps, apply now at www.BoerneLeadersteps.org.  Applications are open to all BISD class of 2017 students.

Summer Opportunity: Texas A&M STARS Summer Enrichment Camp

STARS (Summer Training in Agriculture and Related Sciences) is a free, three-day summer enrichment camp hosted by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University.

- Explore different majors within the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences

- Meet current students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
- Obtain career advice in science-based fields
- Stay in an on-campus residence hall

ELIGIBILITY
STARS targets high academically achieving students (graduating classes of 2018, 2019, & 2020) from Houston and San Antonio area high schools. These students typically have a passion for biological sciences, communications, agribusiness, animal science, health sciences, or biological/agricultural engineering, are looking to be part of the Texas A&M family.

Summer Camp Opportunity: Texas A&M University College of Architecture

Can you visualize yourself as an architect? Want to construct your future as an Aggie? Camp ARCH is offered through the college of Architecture at Texas A&M University in partnership with the Youth Adventure Program operated through the Department of Educational Psychology.

Camp ARCH is designed to help students map out the blueprint to their college career by experiencing first-hand the professions that the College of Architecture has to offer. Open to students who will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school, this residential one-week program allows participants to explore of career field of interest while experiencing the "studio environment" just as professionals would in a design or construction firm.

Date:  July 9-15, 2017
Incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply.

Summer Camp Opportunity: University of Texas Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution Summer Symposium

 
The 2017 Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution Summer Symposium is a two week-long camp for high school students which explores the issues of ethics and conflict at all levels, from the personal to the international. 

Students will develop critical and creative strategies needed for problem solving, conflict analysis, negotiation, and much more. They will experience life at the University of Texas while learning about the greater world we live in. Some of the activities they will be involved in are producing videos, debating ethical issues, learning to manage conflict, and meeting with distinguished artists, leaders, and faculty.

Texas Tech University's L.E.A.D. Leadership Education & Development Program

Registration is now open for Camp L.E.A.D., Texas Tech University's leadership education and development program, which takes place August 1-4, 2017. During this program, students will participate in activities ranging from individualized leadership sessions to group challenges and team-building activities. Your students will also have an opportunity to explore Texas Tech through an official campus tour and in-depth sessions with their intended field of study.

Transportation, housing and curriculum materials are provided at no cost to students admitted into the program.

Admission to Camp L.E.A.D. is highly selective. Students should apply and submit documentation regarding their leadership abilities no later than the given deadline. To be considered, students must meet the following requirements:
  • Grade Level: must be an incoming high school senior in the Fall of 2017.
  • Academic Performance: student's high school counselor must submit a form regarding their academic performance. Students are also asked to self-report their ACT/SAT scores.
  • Community Involvement: must be an active member of your community and involved in extracurricular activities.
  • Leadership: must have a proven desire to be a leader.

Registration for Advanced Placement exams will continue until March 1, 2017. There will be no late registrations for regular testing. Exams are $98 each, or $30 each for students who qualify for the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program.

Classroom Registration Presentations are Underway

Beginning today, February 14, BHS counselors are visiting with all students to discuss course offerings for the 2017-18 school year. Each student will come home with a current transcript and a choice card listing classes to choose from for the next school year.

Some classes require an application. Those that have been provided to us can be downloaded here, and returned to the sponsor/teacher. If a course requires pre-approval, audition, or an application and it is NOT listed on our site, please speak to the sponsor/teacher.

Students will complete the registration process in their classrooms from February 20-March 3. Each student has been told when they are to return to school with a completed course selection card. Counselors will be on hand to help students finalize their schedules.

Advanced Placement Exam Registration

Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Boerne High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.

For the 2017 AP exams, students at Boerne High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.
This year each AP exam costs $98.00. Boerne High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams.  The 2017 AP Exams will be administered at 1910 Church over a two week period in May: May 1 through 5 and May 8 through 12.

Online Exam registration will begin on Wed, Feb 1, 2017 at 12:00 AM and end on Wed, Mar 1, 2017 at 11:59 PM. In order to register, students should click on the link provided on the school website or visit www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/440730 to register. To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.

Boerne High School is excited to continue to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration (VISA OR MASTERCARD credit or debit card). Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment. However, payment may be mailed if preferred. Please note all deadlines for receipt of payment.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:
Wed, Feb 1, 2017 at 12:00 AM - Registration Begins
Wed, Mar 1, 2017 at 11:59 PM - Registration Ends
Mon, Mar 6, 2017 at 11:59 PM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.

OU's biggest open house of the spring semester, Sooner Saturday, will be held on Saturday, April 29th! This event is for high school juniors and their parents. Students will learn about the Sooner family, take part in information sessions, tour our campus and residential colleges, and so much more!

Juniors: Attend Camp College at SMU!

Camp College is a college-going program for rising seniors to spend 2 nights on a college campus and learn about the college application process.  This program is open to any Texas high school rising senior (class of 2018) who is considered to be college bound.  

This year's Camp College will be held at the Southern Methodist University from June 5-7, 2016. 

The cost of the program is free to students. Camp College will provide buses for students coming from the Houston, San Antonio, and Austin regions.  Students from outside of the regions must plan on supplying their own transportation to and from SMU.

Space is limited, so submit your application as soon as possible. Application deadline is April 1, 2017.
